The essays on films and plays published in this book were written at different times and have all previously appeared in print—some in newspapers and journals, others in the author’s earlier books—but this is the first time they have been collected and published together in a single volume. Akaki Bakradze was a direct participant in that cultural life, and the book thus offers readers insight into the issues that troubled cinema and theater over the course of three decades—whether those old pains have since been healed, or whether nothing has truly changed and the old, persistent problems continue to resurface relentlessly.
