Evenings of Georgian Cinema
Akaki Bakradze believed that Georgian film was a vital part of the country’s culture. He turned this conviction into his life’s work, serving as Chief Editor at both the Georgian Film Studio and the State Committee for Cinematography. He also left behind numerous analytical works on cinema and theater, which were later collected in his book, “Film and Theater.”
To honor his legacy and preserve Georgian cinema for younger generations, the Society is launching a two-part initiative: “Georgian Film Nights at Universities” and “Public Figures and the Films That Shaped Them.” Our goal is to reconnect students with their cultural heritage and create a space for dialogue where they can explore the values, social norms, and experiences of past generations through film.
Georgian Film Nights at Universities
The Society will sponsor student-organized film evenings at universities in Tbilisi and across Georgia. Our aim is to give students the opportunity to independently plan screenings, select films, and lead discussions around them. The Society will provide up to ₾100 per screening to help cover light refreshment.
Public Figures and the Films That Shaped Them
In parallel with supporting student-led initiatives, the Society will also host a series of curated film evenings for students featuring public figures from older generations. At each event, an invited guest will select a Georgian film that played a formative role in their life—shaping their worldview, values, or sense of self. Following the screening, the guest will lead a discussion, sharing personal reflections and engaging students in conversation. Through film and dialogue, we aim to spark meaningful engagement across generations.
